Miguel Altunaga is a Cuban-British choreographer and dancer whose dynamic career spans leading international companies including Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, Rambert, Hofesh Shechter Company, Akram Khan Company, and Lost Dog. He has performed in acclaimed works by some of the world’s most renowned choreographers, earning recognition for his powerful presence and versatility on stage.
As a choreographer and movement director, Miguel has created work for a wide range of organisations, including:
Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, Rambert, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Simply Red, Acosta Danza and Carlos Acosta, Elmhurst Ballet School, Artistry Youth Dance, Tate Modern, Equilibrio Dinámico, Phoenix Youth Academy, National Youth Ballet, ArtEZ, Codarts, Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, ENBYouthCo, London Studio Centre (INTOTO 2024), Theatre-Rites, Emergence Dance, Lowry CAT, Opus Ballet, and Holland Dance Festival.
His talent has been recognised with several accolades, including the Cuban Best Male Solo Award (2002), and nominations at the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards (UK) for Outstanding Male Performance, Best Dancer, and Best Modern Choreography. He has also served as a judge for BBC Young Dancer, supporting the next generation of emerging talent.
